Coal Mine Inertisation:

Coal mines utilise nitrogen to undertake a process commonly referred to in Australia as inertisation. This is the process of taking nitrogen from the surface and pumping it underground to inert the underground workings. In recent years, new developments in high-wall mining equipment mean there is now also a requirement for inertisation in some high-wall mining applications.

It is accepted that with low levels of oxygen, the risk of explosion or fire being supported is reduced and so inertisation works by displacing oxygen in the area in question and thereby reducing the risk of fire or explosion.

Many mines are obliged under regulation to inert or at the minimum have the capability on site to inert if required. Flow rates for this inertisation process will vary by site however commonly the purity accepted for this practice is between 95-97%.

HAVE A QUESTION?

Coal mines are a high-risk environment with an increased risk of fire or explosions. Many mines are obliged under regulation to inert or at least have the capability to inert on site if required. Nitrogen effectively reduces the risk of fire or explosion in coal mines by displacing oxygen in the area.

10ft and 20ft containerised nitrogen generators are our most popular systems for this industry both available for sale and rental.

Generator costs vary. We work with you to properly size the system to meet your purity, flow rate, and pressure requirements. Once this is done, we can make a formal price quote, and calculate your payback time (which you might find to be surprisingly fast). Please get in contact with us and we can provide you with a personalised quote.
